We had the return leg of our match against Twickenham on Easter Sunday, in the garden of the Balham Bowls Club, under a gentle rain of blossoms from a horse chestnut tree. The format was similar to last time - all four of our players played all four of theirs, 45 minutes main time and then 20 stones in 5 minutes repeated ad infinitum. Unlike last time, one game was lost on time. Also unlike last time, handicaps were set to grade difference minus one - difference minus 3 was found to not work well, both in the original online league and in our tournament a few months back.
In all games, South London took white. In this table, a green square indicates an SLGC win, red a Twickenham win. The overall result was an 8 all tie.

Twickenham Go Club challenged us to a team match, which took place on Sunday the 3rd of October, kindly hosted at his home by Colin Maclennan, organiser of the Twickenham club. The format was that everyone in our team of four players played everyone in their team of four. To make sure that all the games were enjoyable for both players, as well as trying to get the "right" result, we used the same handicapping system as the BGA's online league - that is, for grossly mismatched pairs, normal handicaps minus 3, otherwise even games. The time limit was 45 minutes each, with progressive overtime of 20 stones in 5 minutes, then 30 in 5, 40 in 5, and so on. All games were decided on the board, with no losses due to poor time management.
In this table, a 1 means that South London's player won and a 0 that he lost. The B or W indicates which colour SLGC's player took.

South London won 14 - 2. We hope to have a re-match some time near the beginning of 2011.
On Easter Monday we decided to spend even more time than usual playing Go, and have a mini-tournament where everyone who turned up would play everyone else. In the end there were five of us. All games were handicapped if necessary with the number of handicap stones equalling the grade difference, so, for example, the game between Francis and Patrick had Patrick take black with four stones. The time limit was 30 minutes each, sudden death. White won all but one game, indicating that some of us entered at the wrong grade :-)
